TAX (VAT) display issue. And a problem if VAT rates ever change

5 votes

I have products added to my site and have checked the 'Products include tax' dropdown.
This is because if you use 'price excludes VAT' option you get this when you also check the 'Display Prices Excluding or Including Tax':
From: £33.10
£49.65 (inc. VAT)

Which is maybe ok for selling to trade customers but completely wrong for retail customers. Nobody does this.

So whats wrong with 'Products include tax' option? If there is a change to VAT rates (which has happened recently) the final price still stays the same and the VAT amount changes. This maybe ok if there is a reduction and you decide to keep the extra profit, but not so great if there were to be an increase in VAT. The final price would stay the same, but the VAT would be a bigger amount, reducing your margin. Who wants to edit all their prices?

Wouldn't it just make sense to have the the system display a VAT inclusive price and show the ex VAT price underneath? like this
From £49.65
£33.10 (Exc. VAT)
