Additional stock availability options

Currently we have the option for In stock and Out of stock based on the level of stock.
We rely heavily on sales of pre order items and items which are out of stock but can be ordered in.

It would be massively helpful if we could also add other product availability options:
-pre order, and
-available to order.

Please can you let us know if this would be possible?
