Image upload/file manager 'AI compression is not helping'

since ekm has added auto compression of image files we have had nothing but issues with image quality.
Now the image files I have compressed myself using photoshop are compressed far too much, for instance, 100kb jpeg can be compressed to 40kb ... Images with type or that have graphics that are certain colours like red are terrible quality.
So now I have to upload an uncompressed image and hope that the quality vs compression is the optimum standard. Then the only way to test the image file size is to copy the image address and download it again to check that the file size is not overly large.
My suggestion is to have the automatic compression an option for or only on for file size above say 500kb and then also show the file size in the file manager section of the website.
Also, I Uploaded a PNG file and ekm system added 200kb to the file size????
