validate email to sign up
When customers sign up for a customer account. This feature is already vailable for those signing up to a newsletter.
Currently, anyone can register for a customer account, even without a valid email address. This can lead to lots of spam accounts. Adding this feature, would mean those wishing to sign up, would need to validate their email address. This feature would also stop people signing up other people without consent.

Rachel MergedGDPR regulations state that data we store should be accurate, there is nothing currently stopping accounts being set up under false email addresses. These emails don't even need to be valid ie. the customer can use a fake email, someone else's email or their email could be misspelled. By not having an email verification step within account creation, we cannot ensure the emails we store are valid and we remain compliant. It is concerning that this has not been added to the account creation process so far. It is scary how easily GDPR laws can be breached by not having this extra verification step.
