Subscriptions out of stock and inability to add stock

If you use subscriptions you have no ability to alter the stock levels and should the stock levels be low when setting up subscriptions the item appears out of stock and the only way to amend this is to remove subscriptions, save and then go back in to add stock and then add the subscriptions, can we have the ability to alter stock even if we use subscriptions.
Not sure if this is deliberate or a technical issue but it stops us using subscriptions.
